On September 20, 2025, the news about the inauguration of Cowork Transfronteiriço was announced on Radio Portalegre.

Digital nomads and other entrepreneurs have a new Cross-Border Coworking space, opened this Saturday at the International Tagus Tourism Innovation Center (CITTI), in the municipality of Marvão.

The mayor also highlighted that CITTI will have a restaurant that is “ready to operate”, with the prospect that the opening of the competition could be launched by the next executive of the Marvão Chamber.

The infrastructure includes ten individual workspaces, a meeting room with capacity for 20 people, a networking and events area, audiovisual equipment, a pantry, and restrooms.

🏞️ Environmental and Cultural Preservation

Marvão’s rich heritage and natural beauty make it a prime candidate for POCTEP’s funding in:

  • Cultural heritage restoration: Support for preserving historical sites, museums, and traditional architecture.
  • Eco-tourism development: Enhancing trails, signage, and sustainable tourism infrastructure in the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park.
  • Cross-border nature conservation: Joint efforts with Spanish municipalities to protect biodiversity and manage forest risks.

🚶‍♀️ Tourism and Mobility

POCTEP promotes Marvão as part of a broader cross-border tourism corridor:

  • Integrated tourism routes: Linking Marvão with nearby Spanish towns like Valencia de Alcántara and Alcántara, boosting visitor flow.
  • Improved accessibility: Investments in road infrastructure and digital platforms to make Marvão more reachable and visible to tourists.

🤝 Economic and Social Cooperation

The program fosters collaboration between Portuguese and Spanish communities:

  • Local entrepreneurship: Funding for small businesses and cultural initiatives that promote regional identity.
  • Social inclusion: Projects that support aging populations, healthcare access, and community engagement across borders.

📚 Education and Innovation

Marvão can benefit from:

  • Educational exchanges: Programs that connect schools and cultural institutions across the border.
  • Digital transformation: Support for smart village initiatives and digital literacy in rural areas.

The project, led by the Municipality of Marvão, was financed by the Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Program (POCTEP), with an investment of around 20 thousand euros.
